The word ‘Seer’ describes a distinct type of prophet who receives prophetic revelation and impartation from God by way of dreams, visions and spiritual encounters of all kinds. This can include angelic visitations as well as the given ability to ‘see’ into the spiritual realm.

When we reference the Old Testament, we find two words that describe the Seer. That is Ra’ah and Chozeh. Ra’ah means ‘to see’, to ‘gaze’, to ‘look upon’ and to ‘perceive’. Chozeh means ‘a beholder in vision’ and is also translated as meaning ‘gazer’ and ‘stargazer.’

A Seer is a receiver of Inspired messages from God. These messages are imparted through experiences that can include visions, open visions, prophetic words of knowledge, divine encounters, angelic visitations, the gift of discerning of spirits as well as other forms of communication. God is not restricted in His ways of communicating. His way is limitless. Not all Seers experience all of the previously mentioned forms of revelation. Some operate in a few while others may operate in them all.

In the natural realm, we have five senses that help us relate to the tangible world that we live in. Through these five senses, we can identify how something feels, looks, sounds, smells and tastes. It is through these physical experiences that we perceive what is real to us. The Bible makes it very clear that this natural physical world that we live in is only a hint of the supernatural spiritual world that is here now and even yet to come.

“The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised in a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.” 1 Corinthians 15:42-44

Between the tangible physical and the intangible spiritual, it is in the spiritual realm that the reality of life is truly reflected. We should understand that what we experience in the physical is only a mere reflection of what is actually happening in the spiritual. Keep in mind that, like the physical, what exists in the spiritual can also be felt, seen, heard, smelled and tasted. A Seer Prophet has been given the ability, by God, to have insight into it all. The Church is seeing a worldwide resurgence of the revelatory gifts of the Seer Prophet more now than ever before.

Jesus gave the Prophets – as He has given all who make up the five-fold ministry – for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:12-13)
