“The prophetic movements in church history and contemporary life are fed by two mighty streams: the Prophet whose revelation are primarily verbal and the Seer Prophet whose revelation is more visual in nature. All true Seers are Prophets but not all Prophets are Seers.” – Jim (James) Goll, author of: “The Seer: The Prophetic Power Of Visions, Dreams And Open Heavens”
GOD REVEALS HIMSELF TO HIS PROPHETS
When God speaks, He speaks to edify His people for His glory. He uses many tools to communicate His Word including the Holy Scripture and the Holy Spirit who only dwells within true children of God. However, there is a unique impartation that is received through divine revelation when God speaks and reveals Himself to and through His servants the Prophets.
“Hear now My words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make Myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.” Numbers 12:6
CALLED TO PREPARE GOD’S PEOPLE
By sharing God’s spoken Word, Prophets are called to edify God’s people while directing them to a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. God truly has a special relationship with His Prophets. He gives them insight into the spiritual realm where He shares His mysteries and secrets to what is, what could be and what is to come.
“For the Lord God does nothing without sharing His secrets with His servant the prophet.” Amos 3:7
The Prophet anointing is only given by God. Those who have it were chosen and pre-destined to have it before birth. It cannot be taught, learned or imparted from one to another. Be careful to not confuse the counterfeit evil power that is marked by the demonic with the Holy anointing power that is given by God. For one is clearly conjured up by Satan while the other submits to and serves the Lord our God.
At God’s direction, the Prophet is called to speak specific messages of encouragement, warning, correction and rebuke to those who make up the Church body. The Prophet also stands in the gap for God’s children by way of intersessional prayer.
Seer Prophets are anointed to supernaturally ‘see’ with their spiritual eyes what is hidden to the naked eyes that are in the natural. Seers “see” messages received from God primarily in dreams and visions. These messages can come in the form of an audible voice, through written words or through parables and riddles hidden in images and pictures. Sometimes God gives an immediate interpretation to these hidden matters, but more often He requires the Prophet to seek it out.
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” Proverbs 25:2
It is completely natural and commonplace for a Seer to ‘see’ and discern things in the spiritual realm such as angelic beings, demons, spirits and other spiritual manifestations. A Seer may also operate in other senses such as smell, taste and touch. Seers experience spiritual manifestations that only they can “see”. This causes them to be very sensitive to the environment around them. This sensitivity manifests in many ways and can include episodes of spontaneous tears, changes in body temperature as well as feeling emotional highs and lows. God expects sinlessness and complete obedience from His Prophets. He holds them to very high standards of accountability. A lifestyle that includes daily repentence and deliverance is an absolute must for any Prophet. From he who receives much, much is required.
Seers are wired differently. The world they live in is not one that most can understand or appreciate. The unique makeup of a Seer can cause them to seem ‘strange’ or ‘different’ to most people. For this reason, it is not uncommon for many Seers to prefer solitude to crowds of people. Seers may also come across as being too direct, callous and even cold. This may be on account of the work God has given them to do.
Not all Prophets are Seers but all true Seers are Prophets. God uniquely reveals specific messages to the Seer Prophet through revelatory dreams, visions, words of knowledge, angelic visitations, divine encounters as well as by His audible voice for the purpose of drawing, teaching, inspiring, refining, interceding as well as warning, correcting and rebuking the Church body.
Another purpose for the Seer anointing is to alert and open the ‘eyes’ of God’s people to the realities that exist in the spiritual realm. A call to the office of a Seer Prophet involves a miraculous manifestation of the Spirit that creatively highlights the truths of Jesus Christ and gives confirmation to the direction of God.
“So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Ephesians 4:11-13
A WORD TO ALL PROPHETS
Prophets not only exist today, but are needed more now than ever before. Therefore I encourage and implore ALL Prophets to come forth out of hiding to boldly and faithfully embrace your call. You, as well as each one of God’s anointed, are among the chosen few. You are commissioned vessels that have been placed on this Earth to take your place among the five-fold ministry for the purpose of uniquely serving God and His people in a way that only you can. God has especially and expressly chosen you to receive and deliver His Word to prepare the Church body for the imminent return of Jesus Christ.
